About Exhibition

Shoko Fujimori was born in Hokkaido in 1986. Received B.F.A in oil painting from Tokyo University of the Arts in 2011. She is a remarkable emerging artist who achieved a prize at The 10th Gunma Biennale for Young Artists.
" I want to represent the figure that experience and feelings were reflected by the body of living things", Fujimori says. The surface of the body of living things which Fujimori represents is sometimes damaged and discolored remarkably, or covered like a chimera by plants and creatures. However, they are not tied with an image of the death and the fantasy easily. Rather  it sympathizes with our imperfect and one and only body, therefore they close up to us despite of curious appearance.
This is her first solo exhibition at Gallery Jin Projects, and about 10 paintings will be exhibited.

“ I have represented internal voice and desire come from emotions with physical detail. Inconsistency to lie between reason and feelings, absurdity. In my works, I have made much of the viewpoint of feelings, and represented the irritating thought that cannot be satisfied only at the theoretical viewpoint.

I think grope for relationship with others is equal to thinking about "SEI—life—". It is impossible to live without relationship with others. We cannot but interact with others using physical strength and mental strength. Even if I am negative even if feelings to be born there are positive, it is nothing to do with an essential thing.

Also, I make much of "SEI—sex—" in my works;physical and skin details, fetishism to the figurative art, feminine jealousy or fixation, and eroticism from such feminine elements. I emphasize these "SEI" at present. ” (Shoko Fujimori)
